Scooters & More - FAQs
FAQs
1. Do you take insurance for scooters or power wheelchairs?
Insurance does not cover scooters (3- or 4-wheel mobility scooters).
Insurance may cover a power wheelchair (PWC) if strict medical requirements are met. Medicare and most plans require:
• A face-to-face exam with your doctor
• Documentation showing medical need inside the home
• Proof that lesser equipment will not meet your needs
2. Why can’t I get the equipment I want if my insurance says it’s covered?
Insurance covers equipment based on medical necessity, not preference.
3. Why does my doctor say you can fill my order, but you’re asking for more paperwork?
Doctors often send basic paperwork, but insurance requires very specific details.
We may need:
• Additional measurements
• Notes explaining why lesser equipment will not work
• Confirmation of medical history, strength, ROM, or home layout
We help guide your doctor through the process to avoid delays.
4. How long does the approval process take?
Approval times vary by insurance but typically take:
• 1–3 weeks for evaluation and paperwork
• 2–6 weeks for insurance review
• Additional time for equipment ordering and scheduling delivery
We keep you updated at every step.
5. What does “13-month rental” mean?
For many products, Medicare requires a 13-month rental period before ownership transfers to you.
• Insurance pays monthly
• The equipment remains provider-owned during the rental
• After 13 months, it becomes yours
This is a Medicare rule—not specific to our company.
6. Why do you have to pick up equipment that was already paid for?
If your equipment is still in the rental period, it is owned by provider.
If you no longer qualify, move, or no longer use it, insurance requires us to pick it up.
7. Do you do repairs through insurance?
Insurance only covers specific repairs and only under certain rules.
Patients are usually responsible for:
• Service-call fees
• Non-covered parts
• Out-of-warranty items
We explain all costs before any work is done.
8. Why aren’t my scooter or power chair batteries covered by insurance?
Insurance only covers batteries for medically necessary power equipment.
Mobility scooters and portable power chairs are considered recreational, so batteries are not covered
9. Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. We offer flexible payment options for:
• Equipment purchases
• Repairs
• Rentals
Ask our team for available programs.
10. Why are your prices different from online retailers?
Online equipment is often:
• Lower-grade
• Not customizable
• Non-serviceable
• Not supported by local repair technicians
At Scooters & More, you receive:
• Medical-grade equipment
• Professional fitting
• Local service and repairs
• Warranty support
• Training on how to use your equipment safely
